Echoes beneath the surface.
An intricate Renaissance-inspired scene lies just beneath the paint. A man reaches downward toward the pale body of a seemingly lifeless figure. The imagery is rendered with exquisite detail, then transformed through overpainting to create the illusion of layered fragments, as if history itself has been peeled back and rearranged.
In Chroma Renaissance, Alejandro Meza works in oil on canvas using a double-painting technique, building depth through deliberate layering and the illusion of collage. The result is both haunting and magnetic, a dialogue between eras, where the classical and the contemporary share the same breath.

Alejandro Meza is a contemporary painter based in New York City, originally trained at the Mexico City National School of Fine Art. His work layers references that span from the grandeur of the Baroque to the kitsch of popular icons and cartoons, weaving them into richly anachronistic compositions.
In his ongoing series Baroque Hubbub, Meza explores the tension between color, composition, and gesture—balancing playfulness with precision. His paintings obscure as much as they reveal, creating juxtapositions that open into fragmented narratives. Sensual yet enigmatic, his work reflects the complexity of contemporary global culture, where histories, images, and symbols continually collide.
