DETAILS
Based in Guelph, Ontario, Jane Theodore is a painter whose abstract works subtly evoke a sense of place. Her dynamic compositions are marked by vivid colour, expressive gestural marks, and a deep sensitivity to light and topography—often recalling the quiet atmosphere of twilight and the contours of the land.
Rooted in the physical act of painting, Theodore’s practice explores the relationship between body, movement, and materiality. Her work is shaped by lived experience, memory, and emotion, offering a visceral response to the natural world around her.
Theodore’s paintings are held in private collections across North America and Europe, and have been featured in commercial spaces including The Palazzo in Las Vegas. Her work has been published by Verkerke Reprodukties N.V. in the Netherlands and featured on the Collections Canada website as part of Women Artists in Canada. She was a semi-finalist in the Bombay Sapphire Artisan Series and has received support from the Ontario Arts Council. Born in Winnipeg in 1960, Jane continues to live and work in Guelph, where her practice reflects a deep and evolving dialogue with the land.
