Description
Two familiar figures emerge from a fractured scene.
Goofy and Donald Duck, their forms surfacing as if from the earth itself, caught mid-brawl against a pale blue backdrop. The moment feels playful yet unsettling, cartoon nostalgia warped into something layered and strange.
In The Brawl, Alejandro Meza works in oil on canvas with a double-painting technique, constructing the illusion of collage. Striped and spotted abstractions run horizontally across the surface, partially obscuring the underpainting and heightening the sense of disruption. The result is both humorous and charged, a dialogue between popular culture and painterly experimentation.
A bold statement piece for a living space, loft, or gallery wall drawn to works that blur the line between high art and cultural iconography.

DETAILS
Alejandro Meza is a contemporary painter based in New York City, originally trained at the Mexico City National School of Fine Art. His work layers references that span from the grandeur of the Baroque to the kitsch of popular icons and cartoons, weaving them into richly anachronistic compositions.
In his ongoing series Baroque Hubbub, Meza explores the tension between color, composition, and gesture—balancing playfulness with precision. His paintings obscure as much as they reveal, creating juxtapositions that open into fragmented narratives. Sensual yet enigmatic, his work reflects the complexity of contemporary global culture, where histories, images, and symbols continually collide.
