Description
Collisions of time and icon.
Striped bands of color run vertically across the surface, textured and bold. Between the layers, a flash of Pop art appears; the unmistakable Warhol soup can hovers like a relic caught between worlds. Beneath it all, fragments of Baroque-style figures emerge, their classical forms pressing up against the contemporary sheen.
In The Hunt, Alejandro Meza works in oil on canvas with a double-painting technique, constructing the illusion of layered collage. The multicolored overpainting vibrates with energy, while the interplay of Pop iconography and Old Master realism creates a dialogue across centuries. It’s a piece that thrives in tension—modern, historical, and unapologetically alive.
A commanding statement work for a gallery wall, loft, or collection that celebrates layered narratives.

DETAILS
Alejandro Meza is a contemporary painter based in New York City, originally trained at the Mexico City National School of Fine Art. His work layers references that span from the grandeur of the Baroque to the kitsch of popular icons and cartoons, weaving them into richly anachronistic compositions.
In his ongoing series Baroque Hubbub, Meza explores the tension between color, composition, and gesture—balancing playfulness with precision. His paintings obscure as much as they reveal, creating juxtapositions that open into fragmented narratives. Sensual yet enigmatic, his work reflects the complexity of contemporary global culture, where histories, images, and symbols continually collide.
